Hotel Game Day Hack

If you’re a Seattle native, (or familiar with most cities in general) fighting traffic and finding parking is often the #1 deterrent when it comes to going to a concert, game, or anything event downtown. Luckily, The Westin has you covered.

An offer for tickets to a Monday Night Football Seahawks game had Jake and I calling in the grandparents and headed to the city. Staying overnight at the Westin not only took all the guess work and Uber fares out of the mix, but allowed us to get some delicious food and cocktails at 1900 Fifth to start off our parents night out. With full bellies and a slight buzz, we walked the two blocks to the lightrail, which dropped us off directly in front of the stadium.

(And for future reference, the Monorail is just one block away for when you’re headed to a concert at Climate Pledge Arena, a Seattle Kraken game, or Seattle Center).

Hopping on the lightrail at 5th avenue was easy, convenient, and the station was surprisingly clean. I’ve heard some horror stories about downtown Seattle recently, but I can honestly say we felt completely safe the entire time. Also, walking right passed Zara and a few other cute shops had me thinking next time I should allow a little buffer time for some shopping...

Sitting in the stadium, I watched the famous Seattle drizzle float through the top of Lumen field, gently falling on the players and spectators. The roar of the 12th man made my heart pound and ears ring with excitement. I hadn’t been to an event this big since before COVID and I found myself scanning the massive size of the stadium throughout the evening, grateful for being there, grateful for a city that loves their teams, and most of all, grateful that we could gather together again.

Unfortunately, the hawks didn’t pull out a win, but we didn’t let that put a damper on our evening! The line to get to the lightrail post-game was a bit long and since it turned into a pretty nice night, we decided to walk back. The city lights and spirited crowd guided us back towards the Westin, while people dispersed more and more with each block covered.

I found myself craving the same caramel chicken bites I had earlier that day, the entire way home, which made me very happy to find out 1900 FIFTH was still open once we arrived back at the hotel. Another round of shared meals, small bites, and cocktails, served as the perfect nightcap to end the evening. Not only did the Westin make it convenient to get to and from the game, it took the guess work out of the inevitable “where should we go get food?” since a lot of spots in the area aren’t open later at night.

We headed back to the room for a glorious uninterrupted night’s sleep and returned to reality as the sun came up the next day. Thank you to The Westin for turning the Seahawks game into a full-on immersive experience. One that I’ll make sure to repeat as often as I can. 
