The Daily Habit That Changed My Life

The word mindset gets thrown around so much lately, it’s hard to give it the recognition it deserves. However, there is one discipline I’ve found when trying out different morning routines that has changed the game for me. It wasn’t until I started focusing on and visualizing where I wanted to be, that made all the little decisions during the day a piece of the puzzle to get there. And when that inevitable doubt starts creeping in…it was affirmations to the rescue!

I switch up my affirmations quarterly. Following writing at least three things I’m grateful for every day, I go back to the affirmation page in my journal. Whatever I’m dealing with in that season, whatever doubt or insecurity may be holding me back, I address it and replace it with an affirmation that discounts those garbage thoughts we too often allow in our lives.

I started sharing my current affirmations on my IG and decided it warranted a blog post. I hope you can take these or create some that resonate with where you are currently, and adapt them to your life.

MY ONLY COMPETITION IS MYSELF:

Especially in the social media age, comparison is sooo hard to get away from. However, this is a sure fire way to halt creativity and have you feeling badly that your skin doesn’t look as glowy as the filtered instagram blogger you see. I’ve found that measuring my accomplishments against who I was the day before and how I can improve, not what anyone else is doing, has been so freeing. Celebrate those killing it around you and focus on what you’re doing!

I AM RESPONSIBLE FOR WHERE I AM:

This one is huge. It’s too easy to blame our circumstances or somebody else for why we are where we are. I’ve found that once I take FULL responsibility for why I let that bill become overdue, why I haven’t booked studio sessions or practiced, it morphs from an excuse to action. If you are the reason why something isn’t getting done, it’s that much easier to switch into high gear and make progress. There’s always a solution or a way around a problem.

I WILL CHOOSE TO BE HAPPY AND GREET EACH DAY WITH FORGIVENESS:

This one is pretty self-explanatory but it boils down to our attitude being a choice. I know, when you don’t feel like it, that’s the most annoying thing to hear but a few deep breaths and letting the things you can’t control go can make a huge difference in your day. Do what you can, appreciate what you have, and let the rest go!

I WILL PERSIST WITHOUT EXCEPTION IN ALL I DO:

Goals and success take time. Trust me, I am the least impatience person in the world so I know that’s not an easy thing to accept. Especially since most everything else in our lives is so instant, but whatever your working towards whether it be a business, a fitness goal, a mindset, if you continue to push towards that goal, and outlast the quitters, you will always make legit progress.

THERE ARE NO RULES:

I can’t believe how many times I’ve heard people say, “I can’t do x, because of y,” myself included, and the real truth is, a lot of the time, that’s BS. So many of us wait for some kind of permission from someone else to live the life we want to live, pursue our dreams, and the truth is, you don’t need it! You are the one that has to live your life every day so make it what you want because, news flash - you can!!

MY LIFE WILL NOT BE AN APOLOGY BUT A STATEMENT:

Piggy backing on the last affirmation, what kind of impact do you want to leave behind someday? If you were to die tomorrow, would you be happy with the risks you’ve taken, or regretful for letting fear (or fear of what others may think of you) control your actions? I try to go back to this whenever I feel fear starting to keep me from new projects or putting myself out there. I know this is different for everyone so figure out what is holding you back from something and address it in a real way. I think you’ll be surprised how small that fear is when you take the time to really look at it.

Let me know what daily habits have changed you for the better in the comments below!

Much love,

SG
